Officer Descriptions ~~
Seneschal
- The Seneschal is the president and legal representative of the
local SCA chapter. This person is in charge of organization of the
local group and makes sure the Shire functions as smoothly as
possible. The Seneschal also handles all public relations and other
contact with people outside the SCA.
Knights Marshal
- The Knights Marshal is in charge of armored combat. He helps train
new fighters and assists in getting them authorized to fight, first
in sword and shield, then in other weapon systems. He also works with
the Marshals of other disciplines, such as Archery or Rapier, to make
sure gentles interested in those disciplines have an opportunity to
train.
Rapier Marshal - The Rapier Marshal is
in charge of Light Weapons combat (occasionally referred to as
"Fencing" ). This person helps train new Rapier fighters in
various light weapons systems and assists in getting them authorized
to fight He also works with the Knight's Marshall in coordinating
practices and other related activities.
Minister of
Arts and Sciences - The MoAS covers the interests of the
gentles within the group involving arts, crafts, and sciences
activities. This person also helps plan local activities and helps in
finding sources of information and arranging teachers for
classes
Herald - The Herald keeps track of
who has received which awards and helps gentles research and register
their names and heraldic devices. The Herald may also be called upon
to make announcements at tournaments and courts
Reeve
- The Reeve (also called the Exchequer or Treasurer) handles the
money and financial matters for the group and keeps track of the
financial records.
Chronicler - The
Chronicler produces the newsletter for the group, which contains
articles, artwork and news of interest.
Chatelaine
- The Chatelaine (sometimes referred to as Castellan or Hospitaller) is in
charge of recruiting new members through various activities and
demonstrations. In addition, she works towards improving the public
image of the SCA and assists new members integrate into the SCA
through seminars and other activities.
Minister
of Children - The Minister of Children plans and organizes
activities for the children at events and other shire activities. The
MOC often leads these activities, but also facilitates other adults
in teaching and helping with activities.
